Keep reading to learn more.

Limit your screen time

One thing we’re all guilty of is looking at screens too much. We carry our phones everywhere we go, stare at computers while we’re at work, and watch television when we get home. What you may not be aware of is that overexposure to these devices can cause vision damage, sleep issues, and more due to blue light. You should encourage friends and family to limit their time spent in front of screens and to take breaks regularly.

Stay safe at work

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), there are around 2,000 workplace eye injuries that require medical attention every year. Many of these injuries could have been avoided if the workers had followed safety procedures. Take this month to make yourself aware of potential eye health hazards around your workplace and take the steps necessary to protect yourself from those threats. You should also encourage other employees to do the same.

Wear Sunglasses

It may not seem like a few minutes out in the sun without sunglasses would cause significant damage to your eyes. However, a lifetime of exposure to the sun can cause immense damage to your eyes. Always wear sunglasses and ensure that the sunglasses you’re wearing are polarized.

Keep a healthy diet

Another way you can prevent healthy eyes is to improve your diet. Foods such as fish, eggs, almonds, dairy, carrots, and oranges are all a great source of antioxidants that will help to prevent the development of eye conditions

Schedule regular eye exams

One of the most important things you can do for yourself this National Save Your Vision Month is to start visiting an eye care specialist regularly. Whether you believe you have an eye condition or not, an ophthalmologist will perform a comprehensive exam and provide you with a plan for long-term eye safety. Contact us today to learn more.
