Treatments for Glaucoma

Eye Drops

For early signs of glaucoma or less severe cases, you may only be prescribed some special eye drops. These eye drops will decrease the pressure within the eye by aiding the eye in draining fluid more naturally, as well as dissipating the amount of fluid being produced. The eye drops are absorbed into the eye and the bloodstream, so it is important to speak with our eye doctor and make sure he is aware of any other medications you may be taking. When you use the eye drops, you want to get the full effect by placing the drops in the eye and then shutting it for about a minute. Additionally, you want to massage the closed eye and put pressure near the tear duct. You may feel a burning sensation, but this goes away fairly quickly. Always ensure you are using the drops as recommended by your doctor, as this will help treat your glaucoma and prevent it from worsening.

Medications

In cases where the drops aren’t working on their own, he may prescribe certain medications to function alongside your eye drop regimen.
